Power Station UPS Mode: Switchover Times for Fridges, Routers and CPAP
Plug the power station into the wall and your gear into it, and it takes over when the grid drops. Here is what the switchover numbers mean.

Most power stations can sit between the wall and your gear. While the grid is up, power passes through. When it drops, the battery takes over. Makers call this UPS or EPS mode, and the key spec is the switchover time.

What works well on UPS mode
- Fridges and freezers: a short gap does not matter to a compressor. See how long a power station runs a fridge.
- Routers and modems: most ride through short gaps; test yours by unplugging the station from the wall.
- Lights and fans.
Be careful with
- Desktop computers and NAS drives: some reboot on a 20 ms gap. Test before you rely on it.
- Medical devices: follow the device maker guidance.
Sizing for an outage
UPS mode only covers the gap. How long you stay powered depends on capacity and load. Use our home backup sizing guide, and if you need hours of fridge and furnace power, compare BLUETTI AC180 vs EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus or the bigger DELTA Pro 3 vs SOLIX F3800 Plus.
Frequently asked questions
Is a power station UPS the same as a computer UPS?
Not always. Makers list switchover times from under 10 ms to 20 ms. A dedicated online UPS has no switchover gap at all. For sensitive computers, check your device needs.
Can I run a CPAP from UPS mode?
Check your CPAP maker guidance first, including DC adapter options, and talk to your care provider about an outage plan.
